Trump’s Stance on TikTok Ban in the U.S.

According to a recent report from The Washington Post, President-elect Donald Trump has indicated that he intends to stop the looming ban on TikTok in the United States. During his campaign, Trump assured voters that he would safeguard the popular social media platform if he were to take office.

Former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway shared insights with The Post, stating that Trump values TikTok’s vast reach across the U.S., impacting around 180 million users monthly. She emphasized that the new administration sees multiple ways to address concerns with China without isolating American TikTok users.

In addition, three anonymous Trump aides expressed confidence that the president-elect may intervene to prevent the platform’s ban. This stance marks a shift from Trump’s initial calls to restrict TikTok during his earlier term. His recent campaign has taken a different view, suggesting that a TikTok ban might inadvertently benefit competing social media companies, such as Meta.

Meanwhile, under a bipartisan bill signed by President Biden, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is required to divest from TikTok by January 19—one day before Trump’s inauguration. TikTok’s legal team has argued that the bill is unconstitutional, positioning the app to continue challenging the potential ban.
