Experiment Freely with Instagram’s New Trial Reels Feature
Instagram has introduced Trial Reels, a powerful tool that allows creators to test content performance with non-followers before deciding whether to share it with their broader audience. This feature is designed to help creators experiment without the pressure of immediate reactions from their core followers.
What Are Trial Reels?
Trial Reels provide creators with a way to gauge the success of new ideas, formats, or topics. By sharing reels with non-followers first, you can see how fresh content resonates without disrupting the preferences of your niche audience.
Why Use Trial Reels?
Many creators are hesitant to step outside their established style or niche due to concerns about follower engagement. Trial Reels remove this anxiety by offering a safe way to experiment with content. You’ll gain real-time insights on how non-followers engage, allowing you to tweak or enhance your approach.
How to Use Trial Reels
Here’s a quick guide to get started:
- Create Your Reel: Follow the usual steps to create a reel.
- Enable the Trial Option: Before publishing, toggle the “Trial” option on.
- Monitor Performance: Once published, Trial Reels will appear alongside your drafts in your profile, but they won’t be visible to your followers unless shared later.
- Review Metrics: Within 24 hours, Instagram provides engagement data like views, likes, and shares, helping you assess the trial’s success.
Automatic Sharing
Creators can automate the sharing process by enabling a setting to share Trial Reels with their followers if the content meets certain performance benchmarks, such as reaching a target number of views within the first 72 hours. Alternatively, you can manually share the reel with your audience at any time.
How Trial Reels Appear
- Trial Reels won’t show on your main profile grid or Reels tab unless shared.
- Followers can’t see them in their feed, but reels may still gain exposure through shared audio or location tags.
Benefits for Creators
- Experiment Safely: Trial Reels reduce the fear of backlash from followers.
- Audience Insights: Understand what resonates with new audiences before committing.
- Growth Potential: Test content ideas that can appeal to both existing and new viewers.
Creator Feedback
Creators who participated in early testing of Trial Reels reported increased confidence in experimenting with content and reaching untapped audiences. Fresh ideas often outperformed their expectations, boosting engagement among both followers and non-followers.
Global Rollout
Trial Reels are now rolling out worldwide and will soon be available to all eligible Instagram creators. This exciting feature underscores Instagram’s commitment to helping creators grow and achieve their goals while fostering creative expression.
